IBM Extends Mainframe z/OS Support to Anaconda

The recent IBM announcement of the release of Anaconda and the Python language for the IBM z/OS mainframe in conjunction with Rocket Software is an exciting development: IBM Extends Mainframe z/OS Support to Anaconda:

Without wanting to state the obvious, the availability of Anaconda and Python on the mainframe is likely to provide major growth in Big Data analytics run native on z/OS. In parallel, this increases the need to ensure the validity of the data being analyzed. This new deployment onto z/OS is another major win in the Open Source world and it fully utilizes IBM z/OS UNIX Systems Services (was OMVS). It can also be expected to accelerate the use of Python on z/OS for application coding as well as other cross-system languages such as Java, C and C++, making the mainframe increasingly accessible to the new generation of programmers and applications.

Softdate/z for z/OS is unique for DTS (date and time simulation) time travel testing in the z/OS UNIX System Services environment under which the analytics processing will run. Only Softdate/z fully supports DTS testing of the languages and products used in the USS environment, such as Java, C, C++, WebSphere and such enterprise software as SAP. This is our company’s focus and, with our Softdate date and time simulation software, we uniquely allow the validation of program logic that actually creates the data, under new z/OS environments.
